Alhambra Courthouse DUI Attorney
What to Expect From a DUI Hearing at Alhambra Courthouse
Were you arrested for drunk driving in Northeast Los Angeles? Your case may be handled in the Alhambra Courthouse of Los Angeles County. Gold & Witham's Alhambra DUI lawyers handle these types of cases in all Los Angeles courts, and we are here to help you navigate the process.
How do I know which court is handling my case?
The jurisdiction of your case is dependent on a few factors, such as where your DUI arrest happened, the type/degree of your charge(s), and who pulled you over. You should receive a citation shortly after your arrest. The court location will be located here. If you are still unsure about which court to go to, contact Gold & Witham directly.
Where is the Alhambra Courthouse located?
The Alhambra Courthouse is part of the Northeast Judicial District of Los Angeles and is located at:
150 West Commonwealth
Alhambra, CA 91801
You can find parking on the south side of the court building. The parking lot charges a fee, so be sure to bring cash.
What time is my hearing and when should I arrive?
Like the location of your hearing, the time of your hearing should be noted on your DUI citation. If you are unsure about the time of your hearing, you can contact the court directly or call Gold & Witham. The Alhambra Courthouse is open from 8:15am until 4:30pm on weekdays. We recommend that you show up at least a half hour early for your hearing in order to find parking and check in. It is crucial to arrive on time because being late or missing your hearing entirely can result in a "failure to appear" and a warrant for your arrest.
Who are the judges at the Alhambra Courthouse?
There are seven judges and one commissioner at the Alhambra Courthouse. Judges include:
- Candace Beason – Department 5
- Cathryn Brougham – Department 4
- Carol Williams Elswick – Department W
- Jared Moses – Department T
- Douglas Stern – Department 2
- Carlos Uranga – Department 5
- Michael Villalobos – Department 5
How can I reach the criminal clerk's office?
The Alhambra Courthouse Criminal Clerk's Office is located on the second floor of the courthouse in room #234. The clerk can be reached by phone at 626-308-5530 in the mornings from 8:30 to 10:30 or in the afternoons from 1:30 until 3:30.
Which courtroom will my case be handled in?
There are nine different courtrooms that your case could potentially be heard in at the Alhambra Courthouse, each corresponding to a different department. This information should also be included on your DUI citation, or you can contact the court clerk or Gold & Witham to find out more. Visit LAcourt.org for room numbers and telephone numbers.
The Arraignment, Pretrial, and Trial Process
If you are arrested for drunk driving, the officer may decide to leave you in jail or let you go. If you remain in jail until your arraignment, you will be transported to the Alhambra Courthouse; otherwise, you will have to find your own transportation to the courthouse. The arraignment is your first hearing, and will be the hearing where the judge reads the charges against you, informs you of your rights, and asks you how you plea.
The prosecution wants to get as many convictions as possible, so they typically offer quick plea agreements. We recommend that you do not accept a plea deal unless you talk to a qualified DUI defense attorney first. If you accept a plea agreement, you will enter a plea of guilty/no contest and that will be as far as your case goes. If you enter a plea of not guilty, your case will move to the pretrial phase. There is still potential for the case to settle or dismissed before trial.
